Rhode Island Table Tennis (RITTA) announced this week that they will reopen League play beginning August 3rd. The club has been opened since June when the State allowed gyms and sports venues to reopen. Since then, RITTA has been open on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays with tables available by appointment only. This schedule and these requirements have limited participation as the club administrators have established protocols that work for the facility and the players.
In normal times, RITTA runs a league on Mondays for players over 1400 and an open league on Tuesdays for all players. In August, there will be one league (on Mondays) for all players. Masks are still required in common areas and social distancing protocols are in place. Tables will be cleaned between matches, and there will be a 10 minute pause between matches for cleaning and to allow sufficient air flow through the area. The club is equipped with exhaust fans which will run whenever the club is open, so there is a constant vertical flow of air.
Until it closed in March, Rhode Island Table Tennis had run a league continuously since the close of World War II. Players are anxious to fully reopen – and things are slowly beginning to get back to normal.
