DTTA’s 14th QUINCENAL Tourney
by Angelo Gandullia of Denver Table Tennis Alliance

Hello Table Tennis players and friends!

On Saturday, July 18th, Denver Table Tennis Alliance held our 14th QUINCENAL Tourney.

We had another first-timer in this Q Tourney competing in A Division, our friend and new DTTA Member, Thad Briggs.

The 2015 Rocky Mountain State Games were taking place the same weekend, and we want to congratulate all DTTA Club Members and friends for their good performance in the Table Tennis events!

For the same reason, this time our Q Tourney had only two Divisions, A and C, as most of our regular participants (particularly from B Division) were competing in Colorado Springs the same day at the State Games.

DTTA congratulates in particular:

C Division-
Winner, Mike Wood
Runner up, Lisa “Legs” You
3rd place, Brandon Loi

A Division-
Winner, Hansu Gu
Runner up, Jian “Sword” Yao
3rd place, Gordon “Charm” Kaye

The winner in A Division received $40 dollars cash, a pair of Butterfly Acceil socks, and a 10 pack of PepPod.
The winner of C Division received $30 dollars cash, a pair of Butterfly Acceil socks, and a 10 pack of PepPod.
Runners up in A and C each received a $15 dollar Butterfly Gift Certificate and a 10 pack of PepPod.

Lisa “Legs” You and Mike Wood ended the Round Robin stage in a tie of 4 victories and 1 loss each. But since the match Mike vs Lisa was won by Mike, he ended passing in first place.

The finals – Mike vs Lisa

Great finals match where Lisa wouldn’t give any point up and even looked like she was coming back in the fifth game (from being down 9-3 to barely lose in one of the tightest matches these two players have ever played!

Great performance of our good friend and DTTA Member, Mike Wood, who took his first Q Tourney ever! Congratulations again, Mike! And congrats to Lisa too…always giving a great fight! The score reflects how hard this match was for both : 10-12, 11-6, 13-11 9-11 and 11-8

A Division had two groups. Group 1 was formed by Edward Yue, Antonio Varela, Gordon Kaye, John Miller and Tan Loi.

Ed vs Tan : 11-3, 11-6, 11-2
Antonio vs John : 11-5, 6-11, 4-11, 11-9, 11-7

Gordon vs John : 11-6, 11-6, 11-5

Even though Edward passed in first place undefeated, he forfeited as he had to leave the club to attend something else right after the RR stage was over. This left Tan passing in first place (as he was second), and Gordon in second (as he ended the RR in third).

Group 2 of Division A was formed by Hansu Gu, Jian “Sword” Yao, Carlos Pinzon and Thad Briggs.

Hansu vs Thad : 11-6, 11-7, 11-8

Thad vs Carlos : 6-11, 8-11, 11-7, 8-11
Hansu vs Sword : 11-4, 11-2, 11-3

These results left Hansu passing in first place undefeated, followed by Jian “Sword” Yao, who only lost to Hansu.
