Borussia Düsseldorf won the Table Tennis Champions League (TTCL) Final last week. The TTCL is an international competition of European teams. This year, they played the Final in a bubble with the Final Four teams invited. Borussia Düsseldorf and FC Saarbrücken (both German teams) faced off against Fakel Gazprom Orenburg and TTSC UMMC (both Russian teams).
In the Semifinals, it was the German teams prevailing creating an all-German Final. In the Final, Timo Boll started things off with a 3-2 win over Shang Kun. Anton Kallberg then defeated Patrick Franziska to put Düsseldorf up 2-0. Saarbrücken’s Darko Jorgic defeated to Kristian Karlsson 3-1 to narrow the lead, but in the next match Kallberg overcame Kun 3-2 to close the door.
Congratulations to the Butterfly-sponsored Borussia Düsseldorf club.
*For those following the German Budesliga, you’ll be seeking more of Borussia Düsseldorf in the coming weeks, as they are currently tied with Liebherr Ochsenhausen in first place (both are 8-1 after having played 9 matches). However, the tie will be broken on Monday, when the two first place teams play each other on Monday, December 21.
