A full house was the order of proceedings for the recent Olympic Legends versus Brazil Stars contest in the Botafogo Arena; it was a fact that pleasantly surprised China’s Wang Liqin who, of course, is no stranger to playing in front of big crowds.
Undoubtedly that event has sparked greater interest in the sport of table tennis for the forthcoming Rio 2016 Olympic Games, which will see play in the table tennis events commence in Riocentro Pavilion 3 in Barra de Tijuca on Saturday August 6th.
High Demand
Tickets for all events are now on sale and there may well be a high demand following the highly successful curtain raising contest.
Most certainly the table tennis enthusiasts will be present in numbers but that are further reasons to suggest that demand will be high.
Special Event
The Olympic Games is a very special event; it is only staged once every four years and for those living in the local area it is a once in a lifetime experience.
People will visit an event because it is the Olympic Games; it may be that it is the first time that they have ever seen that sport but they go because of the status of the competition. We all do it, we reminisce time and time about the Olympic Games.
Easy to Understand
It is where table tennis has a massive advantage over other sports.
Maybe you cannot understand the nuances of the sport, the deft touches, the vagaries of spin but you can understand that if you miss the ball you lose the point and if you whack it past your opponent you win the point!
Furthermore, at some point in their lives everyone has played table tennis; they may have not quite played to purist rules but they ally with the sport. It is arguably the one sport on the Olympic Games menu that everybody has tried.
Local Hero
Also, the crowd loves a local hero; in the Riocentro Pavilion 3 they will have the most local of heroes.
Hugo Calderano is born and bred in Rio de Janeiro.
Do not hesitate, demand will be high.
