Match Point: The Biggest Moments in Modern US Table Tennis

Posted on

Earlier today, USA Table Tennis Hall of Fame member Jimmy Butler compiled a video of some of the biggest moments in modern US table tennis.  As he described on his site: “I thought to myself, “what’s my favorite part of a match?” I decided it’s watching match point, because of the emotions we get to see from the athletes.”

The video pulls available footage of The USA Table Tennis National Championships (from their official debut in 1976). He noted that finding any footage before 2011 when USATT began streaming is hit or miss. A credit he provided is to Sean O’Neill, as much of the footage comes from Sean filming with his personal video camera, or from an athlete’s parent. At the end of this video, our two young stars, World #25 Kanak Jha, and World #28 Lily Zhang explain why the U.S. Championship Title means so much to American athletes.
