Great News: Texas Table Tennis Upcoming Head Coach Koji Itagaki

Koji Itagaki coached TSV Bad Königshofen of Table Tennis Bundesliga since 2016. Under Itagaki, Bad Königshofen earned a promotion to the Bundesliga in 2018 and won the Bundesliga’s bronze medal in 2024 and 2025. Itagaki has coached players such as Yukiya Uda (ITTF Men’s Singles No. 29), Andre Bertelsmeier (Men’s Singles No. 60) and Xue Fei (Men’s Singles No. 76) while with TSV Bad Königshofen. Prior to Bad Königshofen, Itagaki worked at the Aomori-Yamada High School in Japan for 14 years. Itagaki has overseen the development of several Japanese table tennis stars, including Jun Mizutani, Mizuki Oikawa (Men’s Singles No. 72) and New York Slice superstar Koki Niwa (SPINDEX: 2797). “Koji Itagaki speaks English very well, and is extremely passionate and dedicated to table tennis,” Niwa said. “He was my teacher in both junior high and high school, and he had a big influence on me.”

 

Itagaki’s daughter, Koharu Itagaki, won the U15 Girls’ Singles title at the ITTF World Youth Championships 2025 in December. She currently ranks as the world 1. Students Accomplishments:

  • Minoru Muramori: First place of World Junior Championships Men’s double
  • Taku Takakiwa: First place of World Junior Championships Men’s team
  • Hidetoshi Oya: First place of World Junior Championships Men’s team
  • Jun Mizutani: Japan National Team First place of Tokyo Olympic Mix Double
  • Kenta Masudaira: First place in World Junior Championships Men’s single
  • Koki Niwa : Second place of Tokyo Olympic Men’s Team
  • Asuka Machi: First Place of World Junior Championships Men’s double
  • Masataka Morizono: Second Place of World Championships Men’ double
