Wu Targets First World Championship Opportunity
BY MATT HETHERINGTON
Yue Wu, known to most of us as Jennifer, will aim for one of four available trial spots at the 2017 US National Team Trial next week in North Carolina. The Triangle Table Tennis Center will host a number of the top players in the country as they aim to earn their spot at the 2017 ITTF Leibherr World Table Tennis Championships. For Wu this is an opportunity which hasn’t presented itself in the past, but now she will have a chance to represent the USA at a World Championships for the first time.
“I really want to make it! I have never played in the world championships before so I will try my very best in the trial,” says an excited Jennifer who seems to relish the thought of a new opportunity. Wu has already shown her ability to perform at the highest levels, winning the crowns at the 2016 North American Championships and more notably the 2015 Pan American Games where she came in as an unseeded player and was able to beat some high level opposition from Brazil to take gold.
