Showtime Table Tennis’s key achievements and developments from July.

Canadian Championships
Showtime athlete Adrian Florin Girbea represented Team Ontario at the 2026 Canadian Junior Championships in Winnipeg.
Adrian helped Ontario secure a bronze medal in the U19 Boys Team event, including an important doubles victory during the bronze-medal match against Quebec. James also attended the championships as a Showtime coach supporting Adrian throughout the competition.
This was a proud achievement for Adrian and an important step in Showtime’s continued development of athletes competing at the provincial and national levels.

Ontario Summer Games in Waterloo Region
With the Ontario Summer Games taking place locally in Waterloo Region, Showtime is proud to have three athletes participating: Adrian, Sienna, and Dakshita.
James is providing on-site coaching support throughout the table tennis competition. We are also bringing some of our developing players to watch the Games, support their teammates, and experience a higher level of youth competition firsthand.
Having a major provincial event hosted in our own community gives us a valuable opportunity to connect competitive participation with inspiration and development for the next group of Showtime athletes.

Building the Arise Competition Database
The July edition of Butterfly – Arise to the Show welcomed 34 participants, including many players competing in the series for the first time.
Beyond the tournament itself, we have now established a structured match and player database for the Arise series. Since its launch, the tournament has connected us with more than 100 unique players from across the region.
Match results are now being used to build permanent statistics and player records on the Showtime website. This allows us to track participation, competitive progress, divisional achievements, and the continued growth of the series over time.
The database represents an important step toward making Arise more than a monthly tournament. It is becoming a long-term competition platform with its own history, community, and player-development insights.

Creating Opportunities Through Our Co-op Program
Our one-month WRDSB summer co-op placement concluded at the end of July.
During the placement, our student gained practical experience in sports marketing, content planning, filming, event coverage, website work, and the daily operations of a growing table tennis organization.
One of the student’s major accomplishments was producing two Arise to the Show highlight videos, each with a noticeably different creative style and atmosphere.
As an open-minded organization, we wanted to give a young adult the freedom to experiment rather than simply reproduce our existing content. The placement allowed the student to contribute real work, develop a creative voice, and see how content supports both an event and the broader development of a sports community.

July was a rewarding month for Showtime, highlighted by a national medal, local representation at the Ontario Summer Games, continued growth of the Arise series, and new opportunities for young people both on and off the table.

Thank you again for Butterfly’s continued partnership and support.
