PREVIEW: Central American & Caribbean Championships

Posted on

(by Steve Hopkins)

The 2026 ITTF Americas Central American & Caribbean Championships gets underway Thursday in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  The region’s top players converge on the Table Tennis Pavilion at Parque del Este which is ready to entertain 1,300 spectators with high quality table tennis action for a full week from April 9–15 with early action to start with qualifications before the Finals on the 15th.

Players from fourteen associations are set to compete, with some rising stars and some savvy veterans.  The top men by ranking will likely be Rogelio Castro of Mexico and Angel Naranjo of Puerto Rico.  There are other dangerous competitors like Marcos Madrid of Mexico and Campos and Perez of Cuba – all who have not played a high enough volume of events to maintain a ranking that matches their level of play).  And if you have been distracted by the success of players in North or South America, you might want to look at some of the young up and comers like Josiah Joseph of Trinidad and Tobago, or Puerto Rico’s Steven Moreno and Jabdiel Torres.

The Women’s event has strong players from Mexico and Puerto Rico like Arantxa Cossio and Monica Munoz from Mexico, Brianna Burgos and Alondra Rodriguez of Puerto Rico, and don’t miss some of the lesser known who may contend like Studi Kashyap of Antigua and Barbuda or Edmarie Leon of Puerto Rico.

The tournament will feature singles, doubles, and team events.  Tune in starting this Thursday.
