Former National Doubles Champion to Head Up National Team Program

March 21, 2016 (Colorado Springs, CO)USA Table Tennis (USATT) CEO Gordon Kaye announced today that Cory Eider has been hired as the new High Performance Director, effective immediately. Eider will be responsible developing and directing all of USATT’s Olympic and National Team programs (Senior, Junior, Cadet, Mini Cadet, and Para), National Team coaches, as well as creating a National Team Development Program.

“This is a landmark day for USATT and our High Performance programs,” commented Kaye. “Cory brings with him years of experience at the highest levels of sport, including, as a former national doubles champion and singles finalist, table tennis. His passion, energy and enthusiasm are infectious, and I know Cory wants develop the systems, resources and structure to see our organization succeed at the highest levels.”

A native of Duluth, Minnesota, Eider has been a multi-sport athlete his entire life, excelling in tennis, ice hockey and table tennis. A former training partner of world-class tennis players, Eider has been integrally involved in developing and directing successful high performance programs in tennis and table tennis. He served as the High Performance Director at the Saddle Brook Tennis Academy (FL) from 2006-2009 before entering the private sector. He rejoined the sports world in 2012 when he assumed the role of High Performance Coordinator in 2012 at the Lily Yip Table Tennis Center, a USATT National Center of Excellence in Dunellen, NJ.

“I am honored to be selected as USATT’s new High Performance Director and very excited to get started in developing a world-class program for our players and coaches,” said Eider. “The United States has never had such an amazingly strong group of up-and-coming young players, and now is the time we need to develop a program to support their growth and development to compete internationally.”

Eider takes over at a crucial time in the sports’ development, with arguably the strongest corp of young talent in the history of USATT. Of the eight athletes competing for the 2016 Olympic Team next month at the ITTF North American Olympic Trials in Markham, Ontario, only three (Timothy Wang, Jiaqi Zheng and Chen Wang) are over 19 years of age.

“Cory brings a unique perspective to the job,” added Carl Danner, USATT High Performance Committee Chairman. “We had a very strong pool of candidates apply for the position, and in the end it was Cory’s vision and enthusiasm that impressed us the most. The combination of his experience competing, leading and directing at the highest levels will bring a fresh perspective and direction to our national team programs and develop strong support systems necessary for our athletes to excel.”

“I have known Cory as a competitor and friend for over 20 years and believe he is the perfect fit to take our high performance programs in a new direction,” commented Han Xiao, USATT Athletes Advisory Chair, USATT Board member, and a member of the selection committee. “As a competitor, I knew of no one that wanted to win more than Cory, and I know he will bring that ‘can-do’ winning attitude every single day. I am excited to be a part of Cory’s team and look forward to working together to do great things for our athletes, coaches, and community.”

Eider, 32,  who resides in Warren, NJ, recently married multiple-time National Team member Judy Hugh.
