This Ask the Experts question was answered by Lady Ruano. She is a coach at the Broward Table Tennis Club in Davie, Florida. Coach Ruano’s response is as follows:

Hi Richard,

 Thank you for your inquiry.

Table tennis is a sport that does not have a regulation regarding the technical skills whether to be right or wrong in the execution of a stroke, therefore there is no absolute truth or theory on how to hit the ball.

From my point of view, the forehand loop can vary depending to the circumstances that occur at the moment of hitting the ball during a game. To avoid extending myself in the answer I can recommend that whenever you are close or medium distance from the table, try to make quick and very fast moves; that way you will use the maximum speed of your wrist always hitting the ball at the highest point.

If you are in the middle or far from the table my recommendation is that the ball stays a little longer on the racket, always hitting it after it has exceeded the maximum point and is making the curve down.

And remember success will be achieved with lots of practice and competition.

 Best Regards,

 Lady Ruano
