Butterfly Table Tennis Question and Answer

Blade: Timo Boll All
Forehand Rubber: Tenergy 05
Backhand Rubber: Xiom Asia IV

Question: Hello Coach Stefan, I have a equipment question, can you please tell me what is the difference between the Butterfly Viscaria blade and the Butterfly ALC blades? Can you recommend an all wood blade for a player who wants attack and loop balls? What rubbers to you recommend for that blade? Thank you very much and look forward to your advice.

Answer: Hi Jose,

Thanks for your question and interest in Butterfly equipment.

1. The biggest differences are the shape of the racket head, weight, handle shape and the assembly order of the ALC fibers in the blades.

2. The Viscaria blade is the heaviest among the blades you suggested. The racket head is also slightly different with the top being more narrow.  In my opinion, this creates more racket speed.

Regarding the all wood blade suggestion, I recommend the new Hadraw SK blade. It comes in 3 different handle shapes (AN,ST,FL).

This soft 7 ply all wood blade is easy to use and to control. It is perfect to generate topspin and makes it easy to use for close, mid distance and long distance play from the table. This blade is a classic and suitable for spin oriented, topspin play and fast attacks. The brand new all wood Hadraw blade series is an excellent line of blades!  Made out of high quality wood layers, this transforms into a great playing experience. When I tested the blade I could even feel the comfortable, smooth structure of the handle. It was very comfortable to hold in my hand.

The best rubber to match the Hadraw SK blade is the Tenergy 64 for your style of play.

Hope you find this help and enjoy your new equipment!

Best,
Stefan Feth
