$5000 Barbara Wurster Memorial Open Recap

(By Jabdiel Torres)

After a long time without tournaments, I played my first tournament in the USA. With this coronavirus, it’s been very difficult to find somewhere to play matches. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to play in Cleveland Ohio.

At the beginning, I was a little nervous, but then I felt very good and very happy. I beat really good players with high USA rankings. I played 3 different categories, under 2650, under 2500 and Open. In under 2650, I reached the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, I loss against Gal Alguetti with a score of 1-3. In a very close match, I play amazing shots with very good focus. At the end of the games, he was better than me. I have to improve during these moments because I loss a lot of the final points.

In the Open, I play really well also. Unfortunately I loss to my teammate Daniel Gonzalez 1-3. He played better than me and in the end he came out with the victory. Finally, in under 2500 I loss against Sid Naresh 1-3. Sid has a tough style for me so I tried my best, but and the end I couldn’t come out with the victory. But, I came in 3rd in this category and I feel proud. These have tough times for practice and match play. I feel in a good shape, I will continue to train hard for the upcoming events.
