Yingbin over Apolonia in Cappadocia

This week’s WTT Series event was the WTT Feeder Cappadocia.  The event was held from February 17 to 21 in Cappadocia, Turkey.  The top seeds were Simon Gauzy (No. 37), Xue Fei (No. 38), and Yuta Tanaka (No. 49).

Simon Gauzy was the last of the top seeds, losing in the Semifinal to the eventual winner.  Xue Fei was upset in his opening match, losing 3-2 to Chen Junsong.  And in a chaotic bottom half of the draw, Chen then lost to Sun Wen, and Sun Went then lost to Tiago Apolonia.   In the final, it was China’s Xu Yingbin victorious after defeating Portugal’s Tiago Apolonia. Xu’s consistent performance and strategic play earned him the title 3-1 (11-8, 11-9, 11-5, 11-7).

In women’s singles, China’s Yang Yiyun topped compatriot Wang Xiaotong 3-1 to claim the title.  In Men’s Doubles, the Chinese duo of Xu Haidong and Sun Wen triumphed in  the all-Chinese Final over Yuan Licen and Xu Yingbin. Women’s Doubles also went to a Chinese pair in an all-Chinese FInal – Zhu Sibing and Yang Yiyun over Wang Xiaotong and Han Feier 3-1.  And in Mixed Doubles, it was China’s Xue Fei and Han Feier that emerged as the champions, overcoming India’s Akash Pal and Poymantee Baisya in the Final 3-1.
