Hikaru Fukushima Climbed One More Staircase In Search Of His Goal

(by: Bowmar Sports/Geovanny Coello)

Last month from September 20 to 22, the National Championship Category 10 and 12 years old took place in Cuenca, which was pre-selective to choose 8 national players who will compete for their place for the 2025 national team in the sub 10 category.

The next and final tournament that will choose 3 players will be played in December in the coastal city of Babahoyo.

Hikaru achieved an honorable classification and a fifth place that will allow him to compete for his place in the national team in 3 months. Despite starting losing in their first match, they were able to recover and placed second in their group. Already in the final key he defeated Gabriel Flores from Pichincha (3-0) and Emanuel Bravo from Azuay (3-2). In the quarterfinals he could not beat the Guayaquil athlete Alexis Romero.

For his coach Geovanny Coello, it is a result that “was expected since we have worked responsibly and consciously to achieve this first objective. Now we have three months, which is a very good time to fine-tune it and look for a place in the top 3.

We will keep trying, Hikaru has one more year in the sub 10 category. He continues to learn every day and has a lot of fun, that is the most important thing at his age”. Hikaru’s tears of emotion were no more once he reached his ranking. With 9 years and a few months of training; His discipline, enthusiasm, charisma, added to his education and respect for opponents, plus his high competitiveness, make his sporting results come little by little. The training is carried out at the High Performance Club of the San Francisco de Quito University in Cumbayá, three days a week from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
