Flipped Script in Slovenia: Four Chinese Advance to Quarters

(by Steve Hopkins)

A week ago, three of four Chinese team members competing in the WTT event in Lasko fell early.  This week,  Chinese players are flexing their muscles.

The WTT Contender event in Novo Mesto, Slovenia has advanced to the Quarterfinals and four of the remaining eight are a part of the Chinese team.  Top seed Lin Gaoyuan won his first two matches 3-0.  Liang Jingkun won his first two matched 3-0.  Wang Chuqin lost one game to Alvaro Robles (winning 3-1) before topping Truls Morgard 3-0.  Zhou Qihao faced a battle against last weeks Finalist, Kirill Gerassimenko, but came out on top with a 3-2 win.

On Saturday, Zhou Qihao will face Darko Jorgic, Wang Chuqin will face Kristian Karlsson, Simon Gauzy will face Liang Jingkun, and Anton Kallberg will face Lin Gaoyuan.  The Chinese players are favored in all four Quarterfinal matches.
