2018 Cook Islands Junior & Cadet Open – Breaking News

Guess what? This is the second juniors tournament in two months where TeamUSA won the junior teams event – both times, TeamUSA defeated a Chinese team! (The other was the Alguetti Brothers in Canada in May.)

It wasn’t easy. Aditya Godhwani, the sole US player in the tournament, and his Australia partner Finn Luu were in the same preliminary group in the Cadet Boys Teams event. They were swept by China 3-0 but still advanced to the main draw as the second finisher. Their semifinal opponent was New Zealand, the top finishing team from the other side of the draw. Adi and Finn fought hard to squeeze through with a 3-2 win and set up a re-match with the formidable Chinese boys in the final.

At this point, the Chinese boys had won every team competition 3-0. Apparently, Adi had had enough. He won both his singles matches and the doubles with his partner. His team won the Gold. What a sweet win! Probably as sweet as the coconuts in the Cook Islands.

The individual events will start today. Go, Adi! Go, USA!
