Are There Any Techniques To Cut The Ball With Much More Spin?

Question:

Dear Experts,

Some time ago I changed from the long pimple (Feint Long II, 1.3) to the short one (Challenger Attack 1.5), because, apart from a very good defensive game, it allowed active attacking play with higher balls. However, I have noticed that the amount of underspin is still too small for opponents and most of them do not have a problem with it.

Are there any techniques to cut the ball with much more spin ?

Answer:

Hi David,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Two things are needed to make a lot of underspin –

1. Equipment – Recommended rubber is Impartial XS 1.7. If the rubber is too thick, the ball will have strong repelling force and control will be a problem. This rubber has the most spin among short pips.

2. Technology – Slice the lower part of the ball slightly below the center of the racquet. You must not hit the ball; you must brush it. You have to ‘rub’ it with your wrist. Finally, practice a lot. Expect a lot of improvement in your skill.
