Table Tennis player Daniel González Ascends into the Top 100 World Ranking

The Central American and Pan American medalist fulfilled one of his goals for the season

Table tennis player Daniel González woke up on Tuesday among the best 100 players in the world, after the most recent update of the World Table Tennis (WTT) world ranking.

Gonzalez surpassed his goal of being in that select group by moving up six spots to 96th place in the men’s singles event.

“Thank God I made it. I am speechless. It’s a goal I’ve had since I started playing. Passing the Top 100 goal means a lot and feels good. I am grateful for the opportunities,” González told EL VOCERO.

A week ago, the Central American and Pan American medalist was in 102nd place. This comes from an outstanding performance at the WTT Feeder Fremont, in California, where he took several points for the global ranking by reaching the round of the best 16 table tennis players.

González, who is currently in New York, where he will compete starting this Wednesday in the WTT Feeder Westchester, assured that he has already set another goal for this season.

“I want to continue climbing the ranks. The next level I want to reach is the Top 85 and little by little continue climbing in order to achieve and have a good representation in the Central American and Pan American Games. Now I’m in New York and we hope that we can get a couple more points here”, he pointed out.

Brian Afanador, Ángel Naranjo, Melanie Díaz and Daniely Ríos are also currently in the Big Apple.

Afanador dropped one place in the ranking to position 61, while Naranjo dropped six places to 191. Díaz dropped one place, to 91st, and Ríos, four, to 197.

Puerto Rico’s first racket, Adriana Díaz, remained in ninth position.
