My 2021 Journey

(By Patryk Zyworonek)

I continued to train in Poland in 2021. I came back to the  US for the 2021 US Nationals where I got to play very important matches with many players, with different styles of playing. I played  7 events,  but the one that I was most excited about was in the U13 boys where I got to the finals.  In the finals, I would have to play Stanley Hsu. Unfortunately, due to delays I couldn’t because I had to catch a flight back home.  After the US Nationals, I returned to Poland again for training. There were also a lot of torments and leagues waiting for me.  I played 7 league matches we won 6 and lost 1 and we are placed 3 in our league. I played many tough tournaments in Poland that were the qualifications for the polish championships where in U13 I got first and second. I also got to play the U15 qualifications in that category and I placed third. After these tournaments, I got called to participate in a Polish national team training camp where I got to play with the best juniors and seniors In Poland. I was also very excited when I got told that I will be participating in WTT Youth Contender, in Wladyslawowo, Poland; Szombathely, Hungary, and Senec, Slovakia.

In Wladyslawowo for U15, I qualified for the round of 16 where I lost to my friend from Poland, In the group stage I beat a player from Austria, Czech and I lost to a player from Russia. In Szombathely, I got to the round of 32 where I got to play new players from India and from Spain. In Senec I was unable to qualify for the main draw after losing two matches in the group stage. These tournaments gave me a new experience and helped me think about how to play with new players. I am very happy about the time I spend training in Poland this time. I saw new places and was able to learn new things that helped me improve my game. After all of those great things, I returned to the US for the 2021 US Open. I am very happy with my performance and I can also say that this torment also helped me think about what I can do to make it harder for my opponent to win, I played lots of matches, and many of those were close. In the semifinals, I had a very good opponent, Steven Moreno Rivera with whom I won 3:1. Finally, I got second place in the U13 where I lost to Aditya Sareen. In the U17 I lost 2:3 in the quarterfinals against Sushant

Llebaka, this match helped me a lot showing me that I have to fight for every ball. I also got quarters in U15 teams and double both with my team partner Zelin Ye. In doubles, we lost to Lyttc and in teams, we lost to Spartans. I am very happy that this year ended with a good result. I am looking forward to many more training and tournaments.
