Butterfly Table Tennis Question and Answer

Question:

I’ve been playing with viscaria blade for about 2 years, now i want to change a new butterfly blade, i feel that in the age of the new plastic ball, the ALC is not providing enough power and quality in my shots than previous, especially from mid-distance to far away to the table, my opponent now return my aggresive shots more easier than previous. Moreover, i’m not satisfied with the touch feeling of the viscaria, when controlling close to the net, the touch feeling is not very clear which easily creates an opportunity for my opponent to attack when the ball is a bit high. I’m looking for a new butterfly blade, my playing style is very aggresive, i have a lot of power and i like to play powerful topspin shots on forehand side, smashing and counter topspin and sometimes powerful topspins at some distance behind the table.I also hope the blade somehow have some touch feeling so the opponent won’t have much opportunity to attack.I also like to play the backhand flick(known as ‘chiqueta’ in japan)to return some close to the net balls. i hope i can have some suggestions on which blade should i buy to satisfy my wants, thanks!

This Ask the Experts question was answered by Truong Tu. Truong plays at the Silicon Valley Table Tennis Club in San Jose, CA. Coach Tu’s response is as follows:

Hi,

I would recommend the Zhang Jike Super ZLC .

The large sweet spot of the blade will allow you to perform an aggressive shot with more accuracy. Moreover, the Super ZL-Carbon technology will add more power to your shot but not taking away the control feeling for the short game and the banana flick shot.

I hope this helps!
