WTT Feeder Fremont: Final 16

Posted on

(by Steve Hopkins)

The Table Tennis America club in Fremont, California is host to this week’s WTT Feeder Event.   The biggest names in the event have advanced – with Mattias Falck and Chuang Chih-Yuan each reaching the Round of 16 with a pair of easy wins.  Alvaro Robles, Shunsuke Togami, Benedikt Duda, Daniel Gonzalez, and Eugene Wang have all reached this round as well.  One early upset of note is Japan’s Yukiya Uda falling 4-1 to Ukraine’s Lei Kou.  Kou will face Mizuki Oikawa on Saturday.

In Women’s Singles, Shin Yubin topped Angela Guan 4-0 to move to the Round of 16.  Shin is World No. 25 and the 17 year old Korean player is the tournament’s top seed – she’s on the cusp of another big jump into the top echelon of the women’s game.  Melanie Diaz fell to Yixiao Wang 4-0.  Yixiao Wang of California made headlines in the US last year with a run all the way to the Semifinals of the US Open last December.  Cheng I-Ching and Lily Zhang and Chen Szu-Yu have all advanced as well.

Lots of great table tennis will follow over the next few days.

The event is being held at Table Tennis America  a Butterfly WAB Club located on Albrae Street in Fremont, California.
