Last weekend was the 4th table tennis fundraiser featuring Michelle Wie.  The “Wie Love Ping Pong” event is coordinated by the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association and raises funds for HSJGA College Scholarships.  The event was a great success – raising over $40,000.

The Tournament was comprised of 16 two-person doubles teams competing in a double elimination format.  Each celebrity player was paired with an amateur player to form the two-person teams.

The celebrity participants included Michelle Wie along with LPGA compatriots Danielle Kang and Paula Reto.  Each of these golfers had competed in the 2018 LPGA LOTTE Championship held in Ko Olina last week (Michelle Wie finished 11th in that event).  Other celebrity participants included actor Daniel Dae Kim, from the CBS series Hawaii Five-O, Miki Ueoka a doctor at Queens Medical Center, Jerry Foltz of the Golf Channel, and Hawaii News Now weather man Guy Hagi.

Aloha Table Tennis Association (ATTA) has supported this event in all four years that it has been held.  This year ATTA set up 4 BUTTERFLY tables at the Republik Night Club.  ATTA acted as organizers, umpires, and score keepers and also provided barriers, paddles, and balls.

Approximately 300 people showed up to watch this event at the Republik Night Club in Honolulu, Hawaii.  Chef & Restaurant Sponsors provided food at the event.

First place was LPGA golfer (and host) Michelle Wie and her partner Steve Rodgers (of Bank of Hawaii).  Second place was LPGA golfer Paula Reto and her partner Allen Woo (of Pyramid Insurance).

The cause that was being supported by the event is the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association – and more specifically to fund college scholarships administered by HSJGA.

The HSJGA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that introduces the game of golf and its traditions to the youth of Hawaii.  The HSJGA develops life skills through fun, affordable and competitive programs that educate, motivate and inspire. For more details – or to donate to this cause – visit www.HSJGA.org.

The impressive list of sponsors included: Ko Olina Golf Club, Bank of Hawaii, Compass Home Loans, Star Advertiser, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, First Hawaiian Bank, King Auto Group, LNW Management, iHeart Radio, Pyramid Insurance, Turtle Bay Golf, Murphy’s Bar & Grill, DB Grill, Golf BC, Alexander & Baldwin, Matson, Fujitsu, La Tour Café, Liliha Bakery, Murphy’s Bar & Grill, MW Restaurants, Roy Yamaguchi – Roy’s Waikiki, Sansei Seafood Restaurants & Sushi Bar, Mama Manoa.

Aloha Table Tennis Association is a non-profit organization.  ATTA is Hawaii’s first and only full-time table tennis facility. ATTA is open everyday at their location at 1375 Dillingham Blvd, #204, Honolulu Hawaii. They are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.  For more information visit www.AlohaTableTennis.org.
