WAB FEATURED CLUB: Spartans Table Tennis

(by Steve Hopkins)

With their location in Santa Clara, Spartans Table Tennis Club is just North of San Jose at the South tip of the San Francisco Bay with easy access to the major metropolitan centers of Northern California.  The facility is over 16500 square feet; ample space for 30 tables.

Spartans Table Tennis Club is more of a training academy than a traditional club.  As noted above, there are open play options for casual players – but the Spartans group are not actively in charge of those options.  That said, all are welcome at the club.  There are options for players of all levels.  There are leagues on Sundays and sanctioned tournaments as well.

The unique feature of Spartans Table Tennis Club is the focus on high quality professional training for both kids and adults.  Their five high level coaches are dedicated to discovering and cultivating talent.

There are two main categories of training at Spartans Table Tennis Club.  The first is the formal student program – a long term, comprehensive training package for young students who want to be competitive in the sport.  Participants in this program range from ages 7-17. The second type of -training is one-on-one personalized training. This category of training is open to players of all ages and levels.  The goal is to improve their skills in the sport while having a good workout.

The Spartans site currently lists six National Team members as Formal Students, and has bios of for about 30 top junior players Under 18 or Under 15.  Spartans Table Tennis coaches hope to identify and develop the next generation of Olympians.

Location: 3051 Corvin Dr., Santa Clara, CA 95051
