WAB Club Feature: World Champions Table Tennis Academy
(by Steve Hopkins)

The motto is “Where Champions Are Made” and as one of the only full-time table tennis training facilities, the World Champions Table Tennis Academy (WCTTA) strives to achieve their motto with each activity.
The facility is in Santa Clara, California, located in Silicon Valley in the center of one of the largest hotbeds for our sport in the country.  Unlike many table tennis clubs, WCTTA does not focus on open play – it is a training facility with private lessons, tournament preparation and tactics coaching, group training, camps, and leagues.  WCTTA staff are also available for coaching clinics and exhibitions outside of the facility.
A table tennis academy is defined by the quality of its coaches.  This is where WCTTA separates itself.  The WCTTA is under the leadership of 2 former World Champions and they offer world-class instruction for players of all ages and abilities.  Each personalized training program is carefully designed to meet individual needs through the eyes of our experts.  The coaching team at WCTTA is one of the most experienced in North America. Former World Champions, Li Zhen Shi and Zhang Li have been coaches for the Chinese National Team & Ba Yi Army Team. Not only were Coach Li & Coach Zhang World Champions themselves, they also created students who became World Champions, Olympic Champions and Chinese National Champions (a list of former students that includes Fan Chang Mao, Wang Tao, Gao Jun, and Liu Wei). Coach Li & Coach Zhang are also past coaches of the U.S. Olympic and National Teams.  Coach Stefan Feth, long time German National Team Member and the current U.S. Men’s Olympic & National Team coach, and Nan Li, former U.S. Junior National Champion and U.S. Women’s National Team member, round out the coaching staff.
Some of the students at WCTTA have included Kanak Jha, Prachi Jha, Howard Tong, Isabel Chu, Aarsh Shah, Kunal Chodri, and Anthony Chu.  The results of just this limited number of students includes junior and cadet teams, as well as national rankings and both national and international titles.  These results show that WCTTA is indeed where champions are made.
