WAB CLUB FEATURE: Calgary United Sports Table Tennis Association

Posted on

(by Steve Hopkins)

Established in 2002, Calgary United Sports Table Tennis Association (CUSTTA) is Alberta’s largest Table Tennis club.  It is open every day of the year for all ages and all skill levels.

With its location between Memorial Drive and Route the Trans-Canada Highway (1), it is conveniently located for players on the East side of Calgary.  The facility is huge – a 30,000 square foot facility with over 9000 square feet of playing space easily fitting 27 tables with high ceilings and table tennis flooring.  There are currently over 170 active members visiting the club in the 64 practice hours each week.  The facility hosts organized tournaments, team leagues, private coaching, provincial team training, and social functions.

CUSTTA is also one of the busiest tournament venues in Western Canada. The club runs events sanctioned by the Alberta Table Tennis Association and Table Tennis Canada, such as the CUSTTA Team Open and the CUSTTA Spring Open, and play is on Butterfly tables with Butterfly 3-star balls. CUSTTA has also hosted the Western Canada Championships, bringing junior teams from U11 through U19 together with open and over-40 singles players from across the western provinces. For Calgary’s rising juniors, it’s a chance to test their game against the best from B.C., Saskatchewan, and Manitoba without leaving their home club.
