Triangle’s 2022 Butterfly September Tournament

Triangle Badminton and Table Tennis Club hosted their Butterfly September open last weekend.  There were seven events, with the highest rating event being the U2600, and with U2200, U1850, U1650, U1450, U1150, and U800 events as well.

The top prize went to Rachid El Boubou who began the tournament at 2308 and went undefeated.  Isabella Xu finished second, Xizi (Stephanie) Sun finished third, and Kenai A. Rios finished fourth.  Rachid was dominant, not losing a game in the round robin or elimination rounds.  Isabella Xu pulled up a tight upset in the Semifinals over Stephanie Sun – a 3-1 victory at -10, 9, 10, and 8.  Sun topped Kenai Rios 3-1 in the consolation match to decide 3rd/4th.

Kenai Rios won the U2200 event which included a 3-2 upset win over Isabella Xu and a dominant 3-0 win over Thirumurugan Karunakaran in the final.  Xu finished third and Chao Ouyang finished fourth.  Other winners included Roy Everman who won the U1850, Rocco Consiglio who won the U1650, Pratik Motiramani who won the U1450, Jintao Lee who won the U1150, and Guilherme Yanaga who won the U800.
