Top 16 Seeds Advance to Single Elimination Rounds at 2016 Butterfly Cary Cup

Top 16 Seeds Advance to Single Elimination Rounds at 2016 Butterfly Cary Cup

On the main day of play at the 2016 Butterfly Cary Cup, over 130 players competed in 16 giant round robin groups of 8 players each to determine the top competitors moving on to the single elimination rounds on Sunday. In Divisions B, C and D the top 2 from each round robin group advanced to meet the top 2 players from each of the round robin groups from Friday’s event. In Division A, the top 4 from each of the 4 round robin groups will move on to the championship single elimination round, with the winner taking $2,500 in cash and prizes.

In Division A, all top 16 seeds cruised into the single elimination rounds, however upsets abounded within the top 4 places, giving some potential underdogs a good chance at the final rounds in the single elimination draw. In Group 1, 2015 National Champion Yijun Feng held onto the top spot, an athletic Bowen Chen cruised into second, Canadian Jeremy Hazin upset Allen Wang to take third, with Allen coming in fourth. Group 2 went exactly according to seeding, with Kaden Xu, Jiaqi Zheng, Yuxing Jin and Di Yu advancing. In Group 3, second seeded Sibing Zheng dropped to 4th, with Bohan Zhang, Jack Wang, Qingliang Wang advancing before him. Lastly, Group 4, Rajat Hubli beat Timothy Wang to move up to 2nd place following Zirui Zhao. Timothy Wang and Ziyang Chen also advanced. With the top 16 players all over 2450, exciting matches between the best players in the tournament are yet to come.
