South Shore Sports & Butterfly Championships 2017 Results
The 14th South Shore/ Butterfly Open was held October 28/29. 200 competitors competed on the 30 Butterfly tables in this northwest Indiana town just 30 miles from Chicago.
Yichi Zhang won the Open $1,000. prize over surprise finalist Jingxu Yang. Miss Yang down 0-3 to #1 seed Adar Alguetti stormed back to win 4-3. Jeff Yamada from Lindenwood lost a 7 game thriller versus Yichi in the quarters.
In the Wasserman juniors Adar Alguetti won 1st place and the $1,000. prize. He was tested by Roger Liu but won the match 3-2 in the semifinals. Ali Khatami the tall,long armed defender from Ohio upset Tianming Xie from Texas to reach the final. Adar won the final 3-1. $500. 2nd prize for Ali.
In the 18 girls Rachel Zhou upset under 15 champion Sarah Jalli to reach the final versus Maria Sirakova. Maria won the final in a tense 5 game match. Maria was also 2nd to Sarah Jalli in the 15
girls and won a total of $1,200. to help her further her table tennis career.Madison Chao played a close 4th game deuce in the other semifinal versus Maria.
Tianming Xie won the 15 boys over Sid Naresh and $500. Sid won the 13 boys over his 10 year old brother Nandan. Sarveen Khatami defeated Katherine Fang for the 13 and under girls title
