Puerto Rico Open: Take a Close Look as Deadlines are Approaching

Posted on

(by Steve Hopkins)

The deadline for registration into the 2023 Butterfly Puerto Rico Open is February 15.  Register before Feb 1 (Wednesday) and save $100.

If you haven’t yet looked at this event, now is the time.

$17,000 in prizes.  A 4-Star event.  International teams.  And for those of you in the Northern half of the US (or anywhere in Canada) – it will be a warm, tropical change from your regular late March slush and gloom.

There’s something really special about this event.  Its what you’d expect from a premier 4-star event but with additional international flair.  San Juan is a vacation destination – so plan to visit the beach while you are there (or bring your family and let them enjoy the beaches).

There are two beaches within easy walking distance of the hotel and many, many other amazing beaches within a short drive.  There are snorkeling classes (about a mile from the hotel) and have video of sea turtles and brightly colored fish.  There are zip lines in the area (last year, there was actually a zip line setup that included a stop over the front entrance of the tournament venue).  The hotel can help arrange day tours that leave from the hotel and allow visits to the rain forest.  There is amazing wildlife, an array of landscapes, waterfalls, a natural rock waterslide, cliffs, natural pools – all easily accessible for day trips.  Old town in San Juan is beautiful with neat architecture, forts, statues, plazas, and brick-lined streets.  The temperature will be amazing – likely with lows in the 70s and highs in the mid-80s.  Flowers will be in bloom, iguanas and brightly colored birds will be near the hotel – all while half of the US is still wearing coats in the evenings and fighting off the last few frosts.  And for the foodees – Cuban food, Mexican food, Brazillian food, and a whole range of Puerto Rican delicacies (like maduros – sweet fried plantains) are all within walking distance of the hotel.

If you plan to travel for just one tournament this Spring – the 2023 Butterfly Puerto Rico Open is THAT tournament.
