PingPod: How Far They’ve Come

(by Steve Hopkins)

When PingPod first opened its doors at its first location in 2020, the leadership had big plans.  There was already talk of expanding to other locations in the City, of attracting the best players, of creating a community.  Soon thereafter, COVID hit and some players discovered that the concept of autonomous table tennis pods also meant “socially distanced” table tennis pods – perhaps the right invention for the times.

Despite the Pandemic and some economic turmoil across the country, PingPod has continued to thrive and grow.  The addition of some venture capital has helped with the big plans, and the hard work of their core of players, coaches, and promoters has achieved everything that they set out to achieve.  Some of the best players in the US now play regularly at PingPod, USA’s top ranked player pitches their brand internationally, their community now involves leagues and coaching and for a concept that initially sounded very isolated – nearly every video shows groups of players and onlookers interacting and enjoying some of the best parts of more traditional clubs.

PingPod’s autonomous table tennis spaces are now in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.  The app continues to improve, as does their social media footprint, their name recognition, and their brand. What was born with the first location on Allen Street now extends across Manhattan to Queens, Brooklyn, Chatham in New Jersey and Old City in Philadelphia.

They’ve experienced amazing growth in under three years.  Expect to see them in your city soon.
