Open Doors: Texas Table Tennis Center (Houston)

(by Steve Hopkins)

The Texas Table Tennis Center (TTT) opened last week in Houston, Texas.  Beginning Wednesday, May 18, the State of Texas allowed gyms to reopen and TTT opened for the first time two days later on May 20th.

When they opened, they did so with reduced capacity. The tables were rearranged with mostly separated courts.  Plastic curtains have been installed to prevent balls from entering neighboring courts – a critical component for safe play.

Hand sanitizer and face masks are being provided for players.  There is a touchless thermometer “gun” available on site.  The manager’s office now has plexiglass installed to allow conversation with separation.  Players are being asked to leave the facility immediately after their play concludes.

In the first few days, the participation level was low.  However, coaching has resumed, and numbers are steadily increasing.  Texas Table Tennis Center expect to be back to normal some time in June.

The Center is located at 5902 Sovereign Drive, Houston TX.

Capacity is being closely monitored, please contact TTT at 713-562-0606 or email shu_xj@msn.com for information.

Visit ButterflyOnline.com for the latest table tennis news.  Clubs will be reopening at their own pace across the country – as there will be great variance between regulations in different areas and each club is different.  As your club opens, please reach out to us and let us know.  We look forward to keeping the table tennis community up to date.
