Village residents make strong showing in table tennis tourney

LAGUNA WOODS – Tennis may get the glory, but ping pong took center stage last weekend in Laguna Woods Village.

The Meiklejohn North American Seniors Open Table Tennis Tournament brought together 220 of the top senior (age 40 plus) table tennis players, who competed for $16,000 in prize money in 33 events. The tournament began with lower level events June 2 and wrapped up with finals in singles and doubles Sunday afternoon.

Resident Len Hauer took home gold medals in four events: Over 65 doubles, Over 70 singles and Over 75 doubles and singles.
