LYTTC Proves Perfect Home Venue for FIT Tournament Relocation

Posted on

(By LYTTC)

The relocated ‘FIT’ Open took place at the Lily Yip Table Tennis Center on 11-12 March and, alongside a fantastic tournament, hosted the tournament of the Chinese University Alumni Alliance. With a packed out club as players came from as far as Miami, Minnesota, New York and Conneticut as well as the team tournament players, it was set to be a superb event. LYTTC would like to graciously thank everyone for supporting our event after the difficulties and short notice of a venue change, especially those who came from out of state.

One of the big triumphs of the day was the victory of Sharon Alguetti in the Men’s Singles Event as he upset top seed Kaden Xu. Sharon looked strong as he came into the finals match but the pressure really set in as he led 2-1 with a 10-6 margin. A quick timeout call from Xu reversed proceedings and saw the match go to a fifth set. The momentum shift was short lived however, with Sharon Alguetti firing up and overcoming his minor setback and powering through to the finish to take the title.

There were some exceptional matches and also some double crown winners. New York’s Sho Miyazaki was the winner of the Under 2000 event and the College Open, while 10 year old Ivy Liu played outstandingly to take out both the under 1350 and under 1550 events.

Other notable performances were Jayden Zhou’s victory in the under 2250 and finalist appearance in the 2500, coming off the back of his win at the 2017 USATT Maryland Regional Hopes Trial last weekend.
