Jessie Xu Shines at 2024 Canadian Table Tennis Championships: Secures Multiple Titles and Named Female Athlete of the Year

The 2024 Canadian Junior National Table Tennis Championship took place in Laval, Quebec, from July 21-24, immediately following the Senior National Table Tennis Championship. The Junior Championships featured various age categories, including U-11, U-13, U-15, U-17, and U-19 singles events, as well as team events for U-13, U-15, and U-19.

Jessie Xu, who had just been crowned the 2024 Women’s Singles Canadian Champion at the Senior Championship, continued her winning streak at the Junior Championship. She captured titles in all her events: U-17 and U-19 Girls’ Singles and the U-19 Girls’ Team event.

In the U-19 Girls’ Team event, the competition format included two initial singles matches, followed by a doubles match, and two additional singles matches if necessary. Jessie competed in the first singles match, the doubles match, and the decisive fifth match. She impressively won all her three matches 3-0, leading Team Ontario to a 3-2 victory over Team BC and securing the U-19 Girls’ Team Championship.

With her victories in the Women’s Singles, U-19, and U-17 Singles in 2024, along with her previous titles in U-15 and U-13, Jessie achieved the remarkable feat of winning all the singles titles in the Canadian National Championships. She participated in six events at the 2024 Canadian Senior/Junior National Championships, winning four gold medals in all the singles events (Women, U-19, U-17) and the U-19 Team event. Additionally, she earned bronze medals in the Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles at the Senior Championship.

In recognition of her outstanding achievements, Table Tennis Canada awarded Jessie Xu the title of Female Athlete of the Year. Jessie’s incredible success serves as an inspiration to young athletes across Canada, demonstrating the heights that can be reached with dedication, hard work, and passion for the sport. Her journey encourages aspiring table tennis players to pursue their dreams and strive for excellence in their athletic endeavors.
