The ITTF-Americas Cup is underway in San Francisco. Action has now advanced to the Quarterfinals where 3 American Men have joined the other top seeds in the Final 8, and 3 American Women have also advanced to the Quarters of the Women’s Singles event.
In Men’s Singles, top seeds Hugo Calderano of Brazil, Horacio Cifuentes of Argentina, Eugene Wang of Canada and USA’s Kanak Jha each advanced on Friday. Their opponents are each underdogs – USA’s Nikhil Kumar will face Calderano, USA’s Sid Naresh will face Cifuentes, Gustavo Gomez of Chile will face Wang, and Puerto Rico’s Angel Naranjo will face Kanak Jha.
Each of the top seeds have also advanced on the Women’s side with Brazil’s Takahashi Bruna, Canada’s Mo Zhang, and the two Americans Amy Wang and Lily Zhang each advancing. Later today, USA’s Sally Moyland will face Takahashi, Puerto Rico’s Brianna Burgos will face Wang, Giulia Takahashi of Brazil will play Mo Zhang, and Paulina Vega will face Lily Zhang.
