The 18th World Veteran Table Tennis Championships (WVC) will take place from May 23rd to 29th, 2016 in Alicante/Elche, Spain. The metropolitan area population of this charming Mediterranean seaport city is about 750,000.
The venue: Located between Alicante and Elche, the Alicante Exhibition Institute is one of Spain’s major exhibition centers; it includes the following features:
- 323,000 sq ft (30.000 square metres) of multi-use space divided between two pavilions
- Wow! 230 tables! Enough floor space to accommodate 230 table tennis tables
- Adequate parking for 5000 automobiles
- Nearby restaurant service and other modern functional facilities including beaches, shopping areas, monuments and leisure activities.
- Located just 5 minutes from an International Airport
The WVC is open to all interested players aged 40 years and over. Total number of TT players registered this time is 4,561. Of these, 47 are from USA of which three are from Texas. And one (YAY!!! Gloria!!!) is from San Antonio.
The players, men and women. compete in singles and doubles events by age and gender, and are separated into 10-year age increments from age 40 to age 90+. Gloria graciously gave permission to reveal her age bracket is 50 – 59; she will compete against 347 other worldwide players in her bracket. This is from a total 4,561 registered in all age brackets in this huge international championship event.
The WVC is held every two years, next time, 2018, it will be in Las Vegas.
