Kay Stumper won the Youth Challenge Event in Tunis this week. Stumper is a young German player (18 years old) who has been turning heads in Europe on the junior circuit – winning the European Youth Top 10 the last two years. Stumper won the third Dusseldorf Masters Event (last month) and followed that up a week later by upsetting Ovtcharov in the fourth Event earlier this month.
In this event, Stumper won the Under-19 with seven wins, including the Finals win over Belgium’s Adrien Rassenfosse (No. 15 U19). Stumper is a part of a strong youth movement in Germany and Rassenfosse is likely the future in Belgium – so these two can expect to face each other many times in the future.
Russia had a solid showing across the week with Koniukhov winning both singles and doubles titles in the U15. The boys events have ended, but the girls events will run this weekend.
Check out the video (queued to the Final between Stumper and Rassenfosse).
