German Titles for Qiu and Winter

Posted on

(by Steve Hopkins)

The German championships concluded on Sunday and both of last year’s champions; Dan Qiu and Sabine Winter, have defended their singles titles.

Earlier in the week, Dang Qiu made the Final 8 in Singapore.  After a quick shift of continents, he was in Nuremberg slicing through the draw.  Qiu faced Cedric Meissner in the Semifinal and won 4-1, and then topped Patrick Franziska 4-2 in the Final.  Despite winning a year ago, Sabine Winter entered this event as the second seed.  She had a touch 4-3 win over Chantal Mantz in the Semifinal before facing off with top seeded Annett Kaufmann.  There was no questioning the result in the Final, as Winter ran off four straight.
