FTTC players earn school glory at the 2020 Public School Athletic League (PSAL) Table Tennis Boys Team Championship!
(By WAB Club Flushing TTC)

FTTC players William Song and Nehemiah Yu, both coached by FTTC Head Coach Sydney Christophe, led Brooklyn Technical High School and Stuyvesant High School to the final of the 2020 PSAL Table Tennis Boys Team Championships, which were held at Edward R. Murrow High School on Wednesday, February 5th 2020.

En route to the final, Brooklyn Technical High School, seeded 2nd, defeated Edward R. Murrow 4-1, while Stuyvesant High School, seeded 4th, upset the top seed, the Bronx High School of Science, 3-2.

Friends off the court, the teams from Brooklyn Technical High School and Stuyvesant were very familiar to one another as they practiced together outside of school. In addition, these schools competed against each other twice during the regular season, with both wins going to Brooklyn Tech. With the odds stacked against them, could Stuyvesant High School rise to the occasion?

Brooklyn Tech’s 1st Singles: Gabriel Riskevich

Stuyvesant took the first match against Brooklyn Tech as their 2nd doubles pair of Krish Gupta and Christophe Cho defeated the Brooklyn Tech pair of Gino Chu and Zheng Yuan Wang 3-1 (14-16, 11-7, 13-11, 11-6). However, the next match went the way of Brooklyn Tech as Brooklyn Tech 1st singles, Gabriel Riskevich, beat Stuyvesant 1st singles and FTTC player, Nehemiah Yu, 3-0 (11-9, 11-9, 11-5). Brooklyn Tech took the next match as well when their 2nd singles and FTTC player, William Song, defeated Stuyvesant’s William Ding 3-1 (11-7, 11-8, 11-13, 11-8), to put Brooklyn Tech ahead 2-1 in the overall team match.

Brooklyn Tech 2nd Singles- William Song

With their backs against the ropes,  Stuyvesant took the 1st doubles match. Brooklyn Tech’s James Yen and Owen Kuiyu Lin, undefeated during the regular season, lost out to Stuyvesant’s pair of Max Yenlee and Cyrus Cursetjee (11-8, 9-11, 12-14, 13-11, 11-9) to tie the overall team match score 2-2

Stuyvesant 3rd Singles- Daniel Chow

The focus now on the 3rd singles match, Brooklyn Tech Freshman Rensong Wan was able to clinch the victory against Stuyvesant’s Daniel Chow (11-7, 8-11, 11-1, 11-7) to make his school not one, not two, but three-time city champions. Stuyvesant High School walked away with 2nd place.

1st and 2nd out of 19 schools for our FTTC players! Congratulations to both William Song and Nehemiah Yu for their outstanding performances this season!
