Five US Players to Contend WTTC Singles Main Draw
Tomorrow the Singles Main Draw begins at the 2017 Leibherr ITTF World Table Tennis Championships in Dusseldorf, Germany. Five players from the USA have earned their way into the main draw, the full four women’s contingent along with Kanak Jha on the men’s side. Lily Zhang, Yue Wu and Crystal Wang all earned direct entry on ranking into the main draw, while Angela Guan chopped her way through the opposition to qualify and join them.

Kanak topped his singles group, beating Paul McCreery of Ireland, 4-2 in the decisive match. he continued through to the preliminary singles draw where he defeated Amin Ahmadian of Iran in 5 games to qualify for the main draw. Kanak will face off against Adrian Crisan of Romania in the round of 128, a quarter-finalist at both the London and Rio Olympic Games.

Angela Guan sealed her women’s qualification group in straight games with two match wins, she went on to the preliminary singles knockout where she defeated Mischek of Austria 4-1. Angela moves into the round of 128 where she will play Sandra Pergel of Hungary, currently ranked 99 in the world.

Lily Zhang takes on WR 192 Hoang My Trang Mai of Vietnam, Yue Wu will face Germany’s Petrissa Solja, while Crystal Wang is up against Daniela Dodean-Monteiro of Romania.
