Eugene Wang and Mo Zhang won the Men’s Singles and Women’s Singles titles last weekend as a culmination of the Canadian Senior Championships. This week, the Juniors battled for the Canadian Junior Championships.
The Boys U19 title was a surprise, going to Sanuka Herath after a pair of upset wins including a 3-2 Semifinal win over Horan Guo and a 3-1 Finals win over top seeded Jason Louie. Sunny Zhang logged a dominant performance in the U19 Girls Singles event. She won each match 3-0 including the Semifinal win over Wendy Liu and the Final over Amber Lin.
In Boys U17, it was Luca Chen who upset the top seeded Aaron Du in the Round of 16 and then snuck by David Xu 3-2 in the Semifinals and topped Yohan Oullet 3-1 in the Final. Despite all of the dominant matches of Sunny Zhang in other events, she fell in an upset to Alexus Lee in the Final of the U17 Girls event.
Jesse Yin was another surprise winner – logging a pair of upsets in the U15 on his way to a win in the Finals over Shangyu Jiang. Cindy Zhu topped Alexus Lee in the U15 Girls Final. The U13 Boys title went to Daniel Liang 3-0 over Weizhong Ji. U11 Boys event was won by Leo Ma 3-1 over Darren Chen. Olivia Wang won the Girls U13 title with a 3-0 win over Cindy Zhu. Yiwin Pan won the U11 Girls Singles title 3-0 over Daisy Dai.
