Buzz: WAB Coach Highlight – Dan Seemiller
(by Steve Hopkins)

Dan Seemiller had a great 2019 US Nationals.  At that tournament, he won the 50+ Mixed Doubles and 60+ Mixed Doubles events.  He also finished second in 60+ Men’s Doubles and Hardbat Doubles.  For most players, this result would be a real highlight – though for Seemiller, this tournament was just one more feather in his proverbial cap.

Success at this level continues to come for Seemiller.  He had already become the top player in the US by 1972, so he has been at an elite level for as long as anyone (and he has been a Butterfly player for as long as anyone).  As a player, Seemiller has 5 Singles National Championships, was a Top 20 player in the World Rankings, and was a perennial US Team member.  His style included a grip that bears his name (Seemiller Grip), but was commonly referred to internationally as the American Grip.  He served 5 years as President of the predecessor of USATT and he has developed and coached US Team members and a US National Champion.

Seemiller would be among the first names on the list when discussing the best American players ever, the most influential American players ever, and the most successful American coaches ever.  Bowmar Sports and Butterfly are proud to support Dan Seemiller in his efforts to further the sport in the US and the world.
