Tawny Banh Joins Butterfly

Butterfly Ask The Experts No. 437 – by: Tawny Banh

(by: Bowmar Sports Team)

Question:

May I know what brand of pimple tawny banh uses in the backhand. How thick is the sponge?

Answer:

Hi Azuan,

I have been retired from competition since 2007.

I used to use medium pips on my backhand back during my many competitive years. Currently, I’m managing my club, Los Angeles Table Tennis Assoc. in California & have been coaching.

I am using Ilius B 1.3mm on my backhand. I prefer my pips on backhand to be black. Ilius B is Butterfly’s new long pip with a brand new sponge, called “Absorber Sponge Drop.”  It has a hard sponge and top sheet so it’s quite good for offense, considering its long pips! It has good characteristics for chop block, counter drive and hit. I recommend Ilius B (1.1mm or 1.3mm) if you are a close-to-table player and Ilius S for further away, defensive plays.

Hope this helps.
Coach Banh
