Ask The Experts: Tawny Banh, No. 418

Butterfly Table Tennis Question and Answer Question:  Best regards. I would ask you to suggest me tires for my Butterfly Viscaria board. I am 51 years old and I have been playing table tennis for almost 40. I have the necessary technique. I’m not a fan of very hard tires, but every piece of advice means a lot to me, so I would ask you to tell me which tire is the most compatible with this board. Of course I want everything if possible, and that is enough speed and turns, but also control. Thank you in advance, best regards. Answer: Your Ask the Experts question was answered by Tawny Banh. She is a coach at the Los Angeles Table Tennis Association in El Monte, CA. Coach Banh’s response is as follows:

Hello Sasa,  I’m Tawny Banh, 2-Time USA Olympian and 1994-2007 US National Team member. Thank you for reaching out to me and asking for my expert advice.  You expressed to me that you are currently using Xiom Omega V Europe on your forehand and backhand.  Well, I suggest you use Butterfly Tenergy 05 FX.  “FX” has a softer sponge which is good for you since you stated that you are not a fan of hard rubbers.  Tenergy 05 FX is best-suited for offensive all-round play.  It has good speed & can assist you in generating heavy & spinny topspin balls.  You get all these features while still maintaining some control at the same time. Tenergy 05 FX will be a good combination with your Viscaria blade!  Remember to use Butterfly Spin Refresh to clean both of your rubbers and apply the Butterfly Adhesive Protective Film to protect & prolong the surface of the rubber. Ok, I hope this helps you. Have fun playing with Butterfly equipment!
