This Ask the Experts question was answered by Sung Soo Jung. Coach Jung is the head coach at the Jung Table Tennis Club in Los Angeles, CA and his response is as follows:
Hi George,
Although not much information about your style is included in your question, may I assume that you are a defensive player and interested in suitable rubbers for such play?
Most defensive players such as yourself usually look for rubbers with a softer sponge for control. In order to achieve efficient defensive play, a player would want rubbers that increase the contact time between the ball and the bat.
Tenergy 05 FX 1.9mm may well be just what you are looking for. Its soft sponge version gives you this very effect by absorbing the ball, thus slowing down the speed of the ball while it is on the bat.
You might want to also consider a blade that is suitable for defensive play.
Good luck!
