Butterfly Table Tennis Question and Answer

Question:
I am about 1500 level player, I am left handed and my long pips mess up a lot of players, my question is I am using a viscaria blade, but I think I need to switch more to a defense blade, do you have any suggestions?

This Ask the Experts question was answered by Lady Ruano. She is a coach at the Broward Table Tennis Club in Davie, Florida. Coach Ruano’s response is as follows:

Hi Bruce,

Thank you for your inquiry.

I consider that the combination of blade and rubber you have is the right one, as long as your game is based on short and medium distance from the table, since theViscaria’s flexibility gives you very good control and the pips which helps to locate the ball better.

Now, if your game is defensive behind the table you could think about changing to a slightly slower and more controlled blade, but you should bear in mind that your forehand can be affected by the change. Therefore, I would recommend changing the Tenergy 05 for a Tenergy 64which is a little faster.

My best wishes of success in your practice.

Best regards,

Lady Ruano
