Women’s World Cup Always A Good Experience

Sendai, Japan was the host of the 2015 Women’s World Cup. As the winner of the ITTF North America Cup, Canadian National Team Player Mo Zhang was qualified to participate in this event featuring the best players of each continent.

The Top 8 ranked players were directly qualified for the round of 16. The other half had to qualify through a qualification stage in 4 groups with each 3 players. For Mo Zhang that meant winning against Melek Hu from Turkey (world ranked #21) and/or Irene Ivancan from Germany (world ranked #41) to advance to the main draw. Not an easy task. Even with the score of 4-1 against Ivancan and 4-2 vs. Hu, Mo lost, but had her chances and was playing on the same level at times.

“I went to Japan to win the competition” says Mo with a little smile on her face. A great attitude towards challenging the world’s best table tennis players. “I prepared myself and I gained a lot of experience” Mo continues. “There is always next year!” she keeps us hoping for a North American Winner in the future!
