Pan Am Championships: Top Seeds Advance to Finals

Posted on

(by Steve Hopkins)

The top seeds rolled through the later rounds as the 2022 ITTF Pan American Championships continued Saturday in Santiago, Chile.  Brazil has already scored a pair of golds in the Men’s and Women’s Team events – today, the tournaments top seed, Hugo Calderano advanced to the Final to try to score another gold for Brazil.  Standing in his way will be USA’s Kanak Jha – who scored a win over Calderano in a losing effort as Team USA settled for Silver despite Jha’s upset win.  The Men’s Singles Final will be played Sunday evening.

The top two seeds in Women’s Singles were Puerto Rico’s Adriana Diaz and USA’s Lily Zhang.  Each navigated their way past 7-game Semifinals today.  Diaz topped Canada’s Mo Zhang 4-3 to advance.  Lily Zhang needed all seven games to get past 16 year old Sarah Jalli. Diaz and Zhang will face each other on Sunday evening.
