If you like playing a lot of matches, then this was the tournament for you. Numerous players played well over 20+ matches over the course of our 4-day 2021 Butterfly/Sonesta Select Tournament. There were nail biting matches that went deuce in the 5th, countless upsets, highs and lows, massive rating gains, but overall, a fun, competitive environment.
Notable performances include:
Terrie Yu entering this tournament was 1531 and gained +264 rating points which earned her best new rating of 1795 at only 11 years of age. She won against several 1800+ players and performed outstanding. She was the Finalist in the U1800 event on Friday and Semi-finalist in Division B of the Giant RR.
Bryce Milford (TBTT student) 14 years of age & Akhila Chitti (TBTT student) 13 years of age, both had amazing performances and crowned themselves Champions in Divisions B & C respectively. All their hard work, training, dedication, and persistence is starting to pay off.
Estefania Ramirios had the biggest upset of the tournament and her best career win defeating Coach Rachid in the 1800 & Over semi-finals which caught everyone off guard. Sarah Zhang had the largest gain of +470 rating points which takes her to 1489!
Ruijie Teo has himself a great tournament earning +239 taking him over the hump and breaking the 2000+ milestone coming out 2002.
Yudi Jin +230 rating points taking her level to 1254. Watch out for this young lefty!
Tejas Avadhanula +243 rating points going up to 1089. He is rapidly improving his game due to all the training he has been doing at TBTT.
